How to overcome the fear of approaching women?

Let the Women approach you ! You yourself have value also don't forget.
Be confident around Women, if you chase them, you may lose value in their eyes.
Been there, done it, learned the lesson, (a long time ago) !.
Too often I think television would have young Men believe they must buy flowers or say what they THINK the Lady wants to hear all the time ! , NO !
Be yourself always! lest you'll eventually get caught out.

Love can sometimes be too much to handle. If getting a girlfriend is hard. Getting a good friend is harder

That's not the point

Bet with a friend for $10 that you will approach the girl and talk to her. When you hand over the money, you won't have a choice to go back to your friend.

Show them what you can do. Show your skills. If you have no skills, develop some.

Alternatively, work on your looks : exercise, take care of your clothing style.

And of course, if you have a good social status, or prospects to get one, show it too :-)

Then strike a conversation, ask about them : what they like, how they feel and get to know them better.

Let me get this straight, buddy. Is your friend allergic to girls or just shy?
If we're talking allergy, I'm afraid there's no known remedy for that.
If he's shy, he's not a man (yet). Just wait until he outgrows the trait naturally

Girls aren't creatures whom you should feel uneasy about, unless they had physical features beyond the ordinary/aside from the obvious which I won't mention, as it could potentially violate lichess' code of conduct.

If they had unicorn horns, 2 beating hearts & Medusa's snakes for hair, then I guess you should be very much fearful.

Just a little tip .
Women love to laugh. A funny turn of phrase ,an innuendo,a pun ,what have you.
Laughter is a great ice breaker and most women do have a good verbal intelligence and appreciate a bit of clever word play.
