Where changes done to stockfish level 5 in the last year? It seems strange I can win now.

Last year I had problems even wining against level 4 AI/computer and I only managed to win one time against level 5.

Then I stooped playing chess completely and only started playing a week ago. I do think I improved ( do not know how ) but level 5 AI seems to be to easy now.

So did they change something in order for people to win easier against AI or something like that?

What rating does stockfish level 5 is close too? 1200 rating?
Well, the "ratings" for the AI aren't actually ratings.

They're just reasonable guesses, but the "ratings" for each level are fixed and unchanging.

They're set here: github.com/ornicar/lila/blob/e4760befcc49766e1b3c2a3f21396e2998677d67/modules/fishnet/src/main/AiPerf.scala

The problem as I recall was that back when each AI level had actual ratings that responded to results, people were even more confused because occasionally a higher level would have a lower rating than the level just below it.

To get around that they were just given these fixed pseudo-ratings.

They're obviously not completely correct across variants and time controls. For example, AI level 8 is much stronger than 2500 at bullet.

Also keep in mind that the each level is more or less a fixed strength across time controls, because the main cap is on depth, so Level 1 will play at the same objective strength regardless of whether you play unlimited or 1 0, and the same is basically true of the other levels.

This means that all of them get relatively easier as the time control increases, since we have more time and will supposedly play stronger, but they play the same.

Now, as to the actual question, I'm not sure what, if any, changes were made to how the AI works in the recent past.

I'm not good enough at reading the source code to puzzle that out, so we'll probably have to hope one of the devs stops by.
