Bullet addiction

Please help me. I played nearly 6 hours of bullet non-stop, 160+ games today. I've played nearly 17000 games on this account alone (not counting 4-5 years before it on other accounts) I enjoy playing bullet time to time and improving on it but I hate when I lose control and then stop eating, talking, or doing anything. I take long breaks from chess because of this. Isn't it possible to play like half an hour or so daily without having these bursts where I just lose control? Day wasted. I really need help but mental health is a stigma where I am
Internet gaming addiction is a serious issue and you have done well to recognise that you have a problem and need help.

You are right to take it seriously and you are right to want to tackle it. It can be detrimental to your mental health and how you function in life if you don't address it, so kudos for acknowledging the problem.

There's plenty to read up about it if you want to (google "internet gaming addiction"). But for help your first action might be to consult your doctor who can refer you to specialist treatment.

"Mental health" is a trillion dollar global industry. The term has been hijacked by post modernist neo-marxists, to include any form of distress.

Nervous about an exam: oh, you must be suffering from mental health. Come buy a pill from me. Let's spend money on a "support group" to talk about your natural anxiety.
Are you playing too much chess. Oh, it must be mental health. Take a pill. Spend money on therapy. I promise to make you better.

It's just snakeoil bro. It's all fraud.

The very fact that you know you shouldn't be playing all day, precludes mental problems. Real mental problems involve irrational thinking, and you are not irrational. You know what the problem is.

You just need to have the will power to stop. Every time you think about playing, remind yourself to do something else. Because once you start playing it's hard to quit.
Start using cocaine....You won't complain then.

on a serious note, just shut down the computer and go outside.get a dog, start working out,eat healthy, study more, read books, get smarter and get more disciplined....don't whine and over-dramatize your laziness and lack of discipline.
Maybe try setting up an alarm after an hour or so.

neomarxism on a chess forum is wild.

I wished ppl who don't have a clue about what they are talking would just keep their fingers from the send button.
@Rubyris please don't take the crap this user wrote seriously.

Try to play one hourly bullet per day : it's a 27 min tournament and you have nothing to lose to try this. 17, 000 games is a great number, you are not an addict just because you played 17, 000 game and that you like to play bullet. I've played 54, 000 games and i was never addicted to something.
I don't know how it's possible to talk or eat while playing, saying 3 words in a chat takes me too long and outside of chats I'm silent. let's not exaggerate, it's not an addiction in the medical sense of the term, but an excess with too much perfectionism which prevents you from stopping. so you can still find a solution if this is a problem for you. therefore remove this perfectionism which pushes you to revenge or to “yet another game”. play every game like it's the match of the century and learn to love defeat and lose the emotions of defeat and victory
@Rubyris

Bullet chess is totally absorbing because time is so short it grabs all of your attention. This stops you thinking about the rest of your life and stops you having to experience the emotions you otherwise might have about your life. Add to that the dopamine hit whenever you win a game, and it's easy to get addicted to it.
A good starting point would be to ask yourself what in your life you are trying to avoid? What do you not want to feel? What do you not want to face? Playing bullet lets you escape from the rest of your life - but why do you feel a need to escape?

Some people can set boundaries (eg I will play for an hour a day, no more) and for other this won't work and they'll need to not play at all. But doing some work to try and identify the feelings that drive the addictive behaviour is the long term solution. Counselling or therapy may help with this, and/or finding others to talk to who experience the same problem.

Good luck :)
