50% of correspondance games timed out!

I spent a few months playing correspondance chess on dailychess.com/redhotpawn.com recently and games timing out because my opponent hadn't moved were a rarity.
Since coming back to lichess - mainly to play correspondance - I've recently completed 25 games, of which 12 have been my opponent timing out in opening or middle portion of the game, and this is on the 3 day time control!
I'm surprised to be encountering this high level of timeouts - what's happening?
Have I just been unlucky?
Might it have been that I initially had a provisional rating when coming back to lichess and was paired with other players with provisional ratings?
I don't remember this issue being as bad when I played correspondance here before.

I think it's just bad luck and it should happen less and less as your rating increases (you can already see this from your games).
It happened to me 3 games out of 22 (for one of them I was the faulty one, many things to do at that time, just forgot).

It's almost never happened to me. Increasing the control to 7 days might help.
