The music of chess (or, at least, of games)

NoTimewasters, you are a man of excellent taste there. ;)

Dreamwalker, you're quite right, I didn't regret that in the slightest. The composition (only watched the last so far) was absolutely brilliant and the clips took me back quite a ways. Glad to see Numb3rs made the cut, but extremely surprised that Fresh (1994 film) wasn't included. If you haven't seen it, find it and watch it. It takes chess and strategies to a level that would make most GMs wet themselves in fear.

MsCaroKann, absolutely spot on and extraordinarily familiar to me. Perhaps we should follow Dreamwalker's lead with music that leads to inspiration and success, whether on the board or off it.
Aronian always listens to classical music right before a game to become inspired. He says he's a hippy and carefree now though, so you guys might want to take it easy on the Bach's and the Beethoven's.
Thank you Hasimir... pm me your address and I'll send you one of my albums :)
NoTimewasters, done.

Dreamwalker, I've watched them all now and you're right about the last one in your list (number 4) being the best. There are two films missing from the collection, though, possibly three. Fresh, as I mentioned before, Blade Runner and possibly 2001. Other than that, it's made of brilliance and the music in number 4 ... well, it's vimeo, I'm pretty sure that can be readily ... acquired.
I listen to music while playing chess. I think be add music to site.

I either listen to music that I like or not at all.

It's best to not listen to anything though, for me, by far.

I tried out classical with it (I am a classically trained pianist) but it didn't help at all.

I like electronic music and jazz, as well as avant-garde, psychedelic, progressive stuff.

But I think it's truly a distraction.
i sometimes listen to the sound of rain on youtube. with headfones. it makes me relax and play better.plus i dont hear the crazy noises from around (shut up,mom! ;))
chess it self is like music, no need to play anything else... symphony on board. :D
